Betsy, the last slurping resident of the Winter Circus, returned one last time.
According to old city legends, she did not end up in a grave, but in a pan, ground up into elephant sausage and shared among hungry Ghent mouths. Whether true or not, on Saturday, September 6, her spirit was resurrected.
More than a thousand visitors wandered with her through the Winter Circus and past De Krook. Betsy's shadow casts a veil of unease, but at the same time drew a crowd that was carried away by music, performance, and mystery.
GHOSTbecame a nighttime ritual to remember: twelve short performances, each lasting fifteen minutes, hidden in secret locations. We wandered across rooftops, along the water, and through hidden passageways. Everyone started in the heart of the Wintercircus, but soon getting lost became part of the magic. And when Betsy breathed her last breath, the afterparty began.
